Coon's modified Ham's F12 + 2mM Glutamine + 5% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split semi-confluent cultures (70%) 1:50 i.e. seeding at 2x1000 - 5x1000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37C. Media change three times a week.

Karyotype: Hypotetraploid
A mouse hepatoma isolated from the BW7756 transplantable hepatoma carried in C57 leaden/J mice [see ref. Differentiation]. Will synthesise in appreciable amounts only hepatic proteins that appear early in foetal development. The majority of cells contain at least two and often several nucleoli and fat droplets are rare. A mixture of BW1-J and Fao cells were treated with inactive Sendai Virus to produce hybrids at 1 hybrid colony/50 BW1-J cells.
