EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:3 i.e. seeding at 3-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin; 5% CO2. Cells are retarded by alkaline pH. Adjust to near neutral after seeding.

Karyotype: 2n = 50
Derived from the trypsinised heart of a box turtle. Cells can develop CPE with a wide range of viruses see reference. NB. Propagation at room temperature (23) although sub lines have been adapted to grow at 30C and 36C see reference.
