GMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 5% Tryptose Phosphate Broth + 5-10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37C.
Karyotype: 2n = 44, pseudodiploid
Subclone of parent line derived from 5 1-day-old unsexed hamster kidneys (Virology 1962;16:147). Used extensively for virus replication studies i.e. poliovirus, rabies, foot and mouth disease, VSV (Indiana strain), herpes simplex, Ad25, arboviruses.
