Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
DMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 15-20% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:5 to 1:10 i.e. seeding at 1-2x100,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 10-15% CO2; 37C. Cultures should reach 2x1,000,000 cells per 25cm² flask. Subculture weekly.

The BE11 culture was derived 2 days after a single injection of buffer into pregnant rats. The cells do not form colonies in agar and are not tumourigenic in BDIX rats. Plasminogen activator activity is barely detectable. They are suitable controls for BE10 (Early) cells (93040118).
