This is the complete description of the cell line that you requested.
By selecting a generic term (e.g. SPECIES) you will go to the corresponding list of controlled terms, while by selecting a specific term you will go to the list of corresponding cell line names.
SPECIES: human, African
TUMOR: lymphoma, Burkitt
DSMZ catalog code: ACC 71
Morphology: lymphoblastoid, single cells with irregular forms or small clusters, in suspension
Description: human Burkitt's lymphoma established from the tumor mass of an African child with Burkitt's lymphoma; this variant subline from the original NAMALWA (ACC 24) was described to be characterized by differential expression of immunoglobulin genes, c-myc genes and cell surface antigens (see reference); cells were reported to harbor a retrovirus of simian origin, SMRV-H confirmed as human with IEF of AST, MDH, NP
Viruses: ELISA: reverse transcriptase negative; PCR: EBV+, HBV-, HCV-, HHV-8-, HIV-, HTLV-I/II-
Depositor: Dr. K. Guy, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, UK
General Restrictions
Available in the following LABORATORY:
-
German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ, Braunschweig)
90% RPMI 1640 + 10% FBS maintain at 0.5-1.5 x 106 cells/ml at 37C with 5% CO2 maximal density of about 2.5 x 106 cells/ml;
frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO at about 5 x 106 cells/ampoule;
contamination was eliminated with BM-Cyclin (tiamulin & minocycline), then negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization assays;
Validated by: cytogenetics 1 (hypodiploid; 45(42-49)<2n>X, -Y, -3, +7, ins(1;?)(q11;?), ins(3)(q11;q27-29), der(5)t(5;?)(p15;?), der(12)t(12;?)(q24;?), der(15)t(15;?)(p11;?); NAMALWA marker chromosomes present) * DNA fingerprinting (same Hinf I-(gtg)5 DNA profile as NAMALWA except for one missing band) * immunological analysis (CD3- CD13- CD19+ DR+ smIgM+) * isoenzymes (confirmed as human with IEF of AST, MDH, NP) * reverse transcriptase (reverse transcriptase positive (RDDP assay))
