Collection of human and animal cell lines, mainly from the American Type Culture Collection
Aim of the center is to collect, propagate and preserve cell lines and substrates from various sources and make them available to Italian researches.
Furthermore, research is aimed to characterise new cultures, optimise their use in virology and adapt some viruses to grow in particular conditions. In particular, the serial propagation of cells from mammalian organs (newborn pig kidney, pig embryo thyroid, newborn lamb kidney, embryo bovine kidney) is made to obtain permanent cell lines maintaining the sensitivity to viral infections typical of primary cultures.
On the cell lines collected, absence of contaminants is routinely checked.
