Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
RPMI 1640 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:10 i.e. seeding at 1-3x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37C.
Established from Grade IV astrocytoma from 68-year old Caucasian female. Cells exhibit strong perinuclear acid and phosphatase activity, glial fibrillary acidic protein present in 70-80% cells. HLA-DR present on approx. 20-30% cells after 48 hours culture.
