DMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37C.
Karyotype: 2n=22
Established after spontaneous transformation of cells isolated from the lung of a Normal Chinese hamster (male). The G1 phase in these cells is either absent or very short. Consequently they have been used in studies of the G1 growth period. A clone called V79.4 is available (ECACC No. 93010723).
