EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:3 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 23C. NB: The cells do not grow well on glass.

Karyotype: 2n = 60
Derived from trunk tissue (excluding fins) of 2 yr. old Brown Bullhead fish. These cells will tolerate a temperature range of 4-34C. Optimal temperature range for cell proliferation is 25-30C BB is susceptible to infectious pancreatic necrosis virus and channel catfish virus.
