Description: Hamster Chinese ovary transfected with Lymnaea receptor GRL101
Viruses: See Properties
Depositor: Dr J F Burke, Sussex Centre for Neuroscience, University of Sussex, Brighton, UK (Originator)
No restrictions. Patent: None Specified By Depositor
Properties: Receptors: GRL101 - putative Lymnaea receptor Applications: Studies in the newly characterized members of a putative class of G protein - linked receptors that directly transduce signals carried by large extracellular (lipo)protein (complexes) into neural events.
Available in the following LABORATORY:
Part of the Business Division of the Health Protection Agency (ECACC, Salisbury, Wiltshire)
DMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). Split confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2 - 4 x 10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% C02, 37C.
Cell line containing the receptor protein GRL101. The cDNA from the CNS of the mollusc Lymnaea stagnalis encoding a putative receptor has been isolated and analysed. The first repeat of DNA displays a high sequence similarity to the extracellular binding of the low density protein receptor, which binds and internalises cholesterol containing apolipoproteins. The MRNI receptor is predominantly expressed in a small number of neurons within the CNS and to a lesser extent in the heart. Contains a mixed culture of approximately 20 transfected clones.
